Why not just Markdown?
AI can access a folder. That does not make the folder controlled project state.
Offmodel keeps readable local files and adds a controlled path from proposed work to accepted project state.
Offmodel's supported workflow

- An accepted change advances state and leaves a receipt.
This control applies to supported Offmodel document and handoff workflows. Offmodel does not intercept arbitrary writes made by external AI tools.
Choose what AI sees.
You copy or export selected work. Offmodel does not automatically upload the project folder.
Keep proposals separate.
Imported AI work stays proposed until you compare it with the current document.
Stop stale changes.
If the base content or project revision has changed, Offmodel stops instead of writing the old proposal.
Change the AI when it helps.
The reviewed state stays with the project, so one AI conversation does not become the project authority.
Access is not control
AI can read and write files. That is not the same as controlled project state.
The missing layer is a clear boundary between work an AI proposes and the state the project currently accepts.
A file write can skip review.
Giving an AI access to a folder does not by itself keep proposed work separate from the project’s current state.
A proposal can start from old state.
A plausible change may still be based on an earlier file or project revision.
A folder does not record acceptance.
Readable files do not automatically show which AI output was proposed, reviewed, accepted or rejected.
A chat can become accidental authority.
When decisions live mainly in one conversation, the AI session can start to define what the project supposedly says.
Offmodel keeps project identity, revision and reviewed state with the local project. AI sessions remain work surfaces; a person decides what becomes current.
